Mango (Aam)

This fruit is native to the Indian sub-continent, in particular, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Southeast Asia.

Mangoes have a juicy peach like flesh, which are high in sugar and a large oval shaped seed; they come in varying sizes and different colours from green, when unripe to yellow, orange and red.

Mango, a delicious fruit in its own right, is also used in many recipes for pickles, chutneys and added in powder form (amchoor) to Asian dishes where a tangy and sour flavouring is required instead of lemon juice. Mango pulp is used to make desserts such as kulfi, ice cream. Mango juice is delicious as a cool refreshing drink or when prepared with yoghurt to make a lassi or smoothie.
