Coconut (Nariyal)
The coconut has a woody shell covered with a rough husk encasing firm white flesh. To extract the flesh, pierce a skewer through an eye at the top of the coconut, drain off the coconut water or drink it, crack open the coconut into two halves, peel off the brown skin. Break up the coconut into pieces and grate or put into a blender, the grated coconut freezes well. Desiccated coconut is used in a wide variety of sweet and savoury dishes and can be bought in most grocery stores and supermarkets.
